For those who choose Cradle Mountain walks to explore the scenic countryside of Australia, knowing what to expect will better prepare you for your trip. Of course every trek is different because you will see different sites, experience different forms of wildlife and you may even be exposed to various weather conditions that may affect the experience. So even if you go on the same route multiple times you will never have the exact same experience. However, there are some basics that you can expect from the beginning of the day to coming back to your Cradle Mountain accommodation at the end of the day’s journey. Day three is midway through the six day trip where you will spend approximately five hours walking ten kilometres.

Day three is a great time for some leisure activity throughout the day. During this part of the walk you will go through parts where you will climb as well as descend. So there are a few areas where careful consideration should be taken. You will start by walking from Mt. Pelion West down to the Forth River until it emerges into the Lemonthyme Valley. At the Forth River you will take a break at Frog Flats so that you can take pictures, rest and eat.

After the short rest you will continue the journey out of the valley via a small ascent to emerge into Pelion Plains where you will get a magnificent view of Mt. Oakleigh. During this part of the trek before going back to the Cradle Mountain accommodation for the evening, you will have the opportunity to explore the area well. There are many different side trips you will take where you will see swimming holes, mountains, waterfalls and beautiful scenery along with some fascinating abandoned copper mines. You can take this opportunity to write, take photographs or just relax while enjoying the surroundings. When the group is finished trekking in tasmania and exploring the area of the Pelion Plains you will head back to the Cradle Mountain accommodation to eat and relax as well as prepare for the final half of the six day trek.

Pelion Hut is at the midway point on the trail and once again it provides comfortable surroundings, an eco friendly environment, great food and great company. During your stay you will enjoy a delicious meal and you can continue resting and preparing for the final leg of the trip. At the end of the evening you can go to your Cradle Mountain accommodation and enjoy a peaceful night’s sleep so you are energised for the coming day and the last half of the trek.
